STAFDA’s HR Consultant, Nancye Combs, has provided an Advisory regarding the Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) visits to member companies. Nancye writes:
To: STAFDA Members:
Business owners and managers are concerned about the widespread ICE RAIDS that are underway in every state in the United States. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is currently conducting Targeted Enforcement Operations (ICE RAIDS). Many businesses are also concerned about the VISA and I-9 Audits that have resulted from the conflict about high-skilled immigrants working on special VISAS. Not many companies are ready for an ICE RAID or I-9 and VISA Audit, because they do not know what to do. It is intimidating and disruptive.
I promised those who have contacted me that I would create this attached Advisory to help you confirm you are in compliance with the immigration laws, and to understand what you need to know in the event you are subject to an ICE RAID or I-9 and VISA Compliance Audit. It is absolutely critical that you make certain that all of your records are up-to-date, accurate, and secure. If they are, it will lessen any anxiety you would have if ICE shows up.
I am sending this to you as a Microsoft Word document because you may need to use parts of it with various employees, especially your employees who are responsible for recordkeeping and those who would greet anyone who comes to your door. You must comply with the immigration laws even if you have only one employee. You cannot wait until an ICE agent appears on your property to prepare yourself.
I trust this will be useful. Tell me if you have questions.
Be safe and well,
Nancye
